Flex Flow Team

We form teams and structures relevant to the particular considerations of the project, its lifecycle and how it evolves over time. This is the flex flow model as it puts consideration of the purpose at the centre of the organisational model for the team(s) so they achieve delivery most effectively. This structure enables linkage to many different parts within the enterprise and to external resources.

Future First Partners provides linkage to a network of expertise, known delivery partners and the advantage of a lead advisor with more than 20 years academic and commercial experience in advanced technology development and application in a range of sectors and across the life-cycle of research, commercialisation, design integration, construction, manufacture and asset optimisation and renewal.

Adam Leggett, Principal

Adam has a Bachelor of Engineering with honours and a Bachelor of Science from The University of Melbourne, and has gained commercial experience leading technical, strategy and change projects with business, government, and industry.

His involvement in commercial, technical and advanced technology innovation projects and ongoing research in future trends gives him a practical vantage point from which to guide leadership teams towards adoption of a new directive and implementation of a cross-organisational transition process supported, as required, by multi-disciplinary teams. He works effectively across the interface of management, engineering and scientific research to increase collaborative design and delivery.

Over 20 years studying and consulting Adam has become sensitive to the human, socio-cultural and economic dimension of new technology adoption. The major gap he has seen, in many enterprises, is an underlying lack of clear executive mandate and actionable directive towards the preferred adoption of or adaptation to advanced technology solutions. Adam views this gap, in the leadership of any enterprise, as a major risk area and large cause of lost enterprise value, especially with the current shifts occuring across the market today. He sees almost every project and key decision point as opportunities for the enterprise to integrate and adapt to advanced technology solutions. This can more easily occur if the enterprise, as a whole, understands what to adopt?, how to adapt?, why? and how to gain benefit?. But with every decision and project many opportunities are regularly lost becuase there is often a lack of strategic clarity and when all these lost opportunities for advancement are combined they multiply. Quite rapidly this can amount to significant lost enterprise value and reduced market positioning caused by a large compounding effect over time in terms of capability and adjustments to operational efficiency, marketing and sales success and the fundamental business model. At the core of this loss is often a central management issue in the enterprise, which is typically caused by a failure to set a guiding strategic frame and execute a structured approach to develop future competitive advantage using advanced technology.

Over many years working with business, manufacturers, building and construction industry, local, state and federal government on projects valued collectively at over $10b dollars, Adam has developed valued insight to assist in:

  • Understanding the competitive importance of advanced technology going forward and take action to shift their enterprise on to an advanced technology responsive track.

  • Redefining existing products and production, create new options, develop, adopt or acquire advanced technology to grow the enterprise and achieve competitive advantage.

Adam Leggett, Principal Future First Partners

Adam is a highly affable, level-headed, flexible and dedicated colleague who I have seen make excellent use of his diverse experience, steady curiosity and thoughtful insight in a variety of settings, both client facing and internal. He's a grounded multidisciplinary thinker who combines imagination and a commitment to results - a valuable and rare combination. I worked with Adam on several projects, notably a series of internal strategy meetings that he was asked to drive across Arup's Australasia region. He is an excellent collaborator, uncommonly adept at approaching and understanding wicked problems, drawing order out of chaos and creating calm amid turmoil. These are priceless assets for any 21st century organisation.

Action Foresight

Our first experience with Dr. Jose Ramos, Director of the consulting group Action Foresight, and an internationally active foresight researcher and strategist, began in early 2001. Our collaboration resulted in the design and delivery of a program for Science Faculty students at the University of Melbourne. The Univator Program centred on developing universally applicable innovation and entrepreneurship thinking and leadership qualities within the context of applying their knowledge to advanced technology solutions. It provided students with an action learning or action research approach suited to life-long learning professional development and a core thinking framework called the FIE model, which links the application of knowledge to the creation of sustainable Enterprise, through Innovation directed by Foresight. The City of Melbourne, Increasing Returns Pty Ltd and The University of Melbourne sponsored delivery.

Action Foresight helps organisations understand emerging issues, and develop future-oriented, strategic approaches to social change and enterprise. Their method enables businesses to think creatively about their direction: to understand the breadth and depth of impending change so that they can address risk, seize opportunity and thrive into the future.

Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organisational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
